bom Sam emerged from climbing the last set of stairs with Baby in his arms. She was already a bit tired from her sustained leer in the last fight, and Sam didn't want to tire her out any more. She was, after all, his only Pokemon.

"Alright,"
he huffed as he set her down.
"I think this is the last floor, if there's anything interesting in this ruin, it's bound to be in here!"

He wasn't entirely sure how that made sense but it seemed an accurate assessment anyway.
It didn't take long, despite the pervasive gloom of the room, for them to find yet another Pokemon in the dark, hardly a few steps from the entrance.
Shiny #:178
Sam's face dropped. It was another Sandshrew rummaging through the dust and rubble.
The last Sandshrew they'd encountered had proven more trouble than it was worth and he wasn't too thrilled about finding another where the rare Pokemon were supposed to be. Even so, he supposed, Baby could use all the training and experience she could get.

"Alright Baby lets..."

He looked down and caught a stern look from his Pokemon followed by a firm shake of the head.
"Okay fine, we won't fight this one..."

They moved quietly as they could through the dim room, making a point to not disturb the Sandshrew. Quiet, however, could not counteract, distracted. In his wariness of the sandshrew he was avoiding, Sam suddenly found himself bumping into something large and fell back on his rump with a loud "OOF!" and a large cloud of smoke.

Having previously traveled the depths of this ruin, he knew how to easily bypass the pokemon that lurked within it. He wanted to explore further. At that, he patted his ralts on the head. This was going to be a tough one.

((shiny number 9))

What stared them head on, was a horrid pokemon. A mass of abyssal spirals of dark energy conglomerated into what could be described as a black hole with an insane face carved into it like a kindergartener's first jack-o-lantern. Orbs of energy swirled around it violently. He was taken aback by this horrid creature, and attempted to sidestep away from it. He... really had no way of harming this pokemon! Taking his ralts in his hand, he darted away as the Spiritomb used pursuit. As though it turned into a shadow, it zipped forward, almost breaking the pillar that held up the exit. His young ralts began to cry. It could feel the fear in Caleb's mind. As he ran away, he found himself slamming into another trainer within the area.

"There's a spiritomb in here! Careful!" he stood up, seeing the monster approaching violently. He had no choice. He called back Belle into a pokeball, which surprised it. He needed a pokemon that could endure assaults. His sandshrew! Tossing it out, it seemed quite pleased with its' familiar surroundings... but quite frightened of the beast which met their eyes.

"Fight or flee? I don't think I can hold off this Spiritomb by myself."

He noticed a sandshrew prance up behind them. It seemed quite agitated from all the noise.

"Lovely."

No sooner had Khia put a foot upon the top stair leading to the final floor, a sandshrew bolted out of nowhere and aimed a scratch at her. Khia jumped out of the way, narrowly avoiding the scratch and narrowly falling back down the stairs. She threw Ray's Pokeball to the floor, introducing him to the violent Sandshrew with an order ''Takedown! Let's get this over and done with as soon as possible!''

Beldum charged forwards and hit the offending Sandshrew with the full force of its body as Khia regained her footing at the top of the staircase. The Sandshrew, upon being hit, used defence-curl in mid air, just before it hit one of the tombstones that were littered across the room. It recovered a little too quickly for Khia's liking, retaliating with a well placed scratch that hardly effected Ray at all. To Ray, Sandshrew's claws were blunt. ''Again! Finish it off, Ray!''

Ray didn't need telling twice, he was already fuming from earlier when the Pokemon attempted to hurt Khia. With a final takedown, the sandshrew went flying down the stairs leading to the 2nd floor, and out of sight.

"There's a spiritomb in here! Careful!"

Even as he got up and dusted himself off, Sam's eyes lit up. A Spiritomb! That was exactly the kind of Pokemon he was looking for! Foreboding, ancient, and shrouded in mystery! He had to catch it!

"Ah, well, looks like We'll have to fight off a Sandshrew too, if you wouldn't mind helping. I can take care of the Spiritomb if you help out with the Sandshrew."

Baby growled her name at the Spiritomb which laughed back. Sam's face grew a bit serious, but the brilliance of determination in his eyes remained.

"I want that Pokemon..."
he muttered.
"Alright Baby use Leer!"

His Larvitar bared her teeth at the Spiritomb in an odd kind of grin and Sam could have sworn that the Ghost Pokemon's twisted smile twitched somewhat. Meanwhile, the Sandshrew that Sam had previously tried avoiding charged in at Caleb's Pokemon preparing a relentless scratch attack.

Just as Khia patted Ray on the head for beating the Sandshrew, a Ghastly levitated up through the floor and winked at her cheekily. Khia blinked, having never seen a Ghastly before, recalled Ray to his Pokeball, and sent out her new partner Sko. ''Skoooorupi!'' Sko said upon exiting, glancing at Khia with a curious expression upon its face.

''A bad time for introductions I'm afraid, Sko, this Ghastly wants to play!'' Khia said, pointing at the Pokemon. As Sko glanced at the Ghastly, it frowned, its expression now unreadable. ''Sko?''

''Lets show him whos boss, Sko!'' Khia said, hoping that her Pokemon would listen. ''Sko!'' she replied, turning to face her opponent properly. Khia grinned; this fight would be easy. ''Try take a bite outa that Pokemon!''

''Sko!'' Sko replied, pouncing on the Ghastly and sinking its teeth in. The Ghastly jolted in horror at the dark-type move; dark-types always had the upper hand against ghosts, and Ghastly was no exception to the rule. The panicking Pokemon jerked forwards suddenly, dislodging Sko's bite, and retaliated with a sloppy lick that disgusted Sko to no end. She hissed at the Ghastly, then bit into it again, watching happily as the Pokemon visibly weakened. Khia unhooked a Pokeball from the back of her kimono and threw it at the ball of gas. Maybe she could find a use for a ghost Pokemon?

Sko watched with mild interest as the ball ceased rocking, signalling that the capture had been a success. Meanwhile, across the room, Khia watched as two trainers battled two Pokemon, and decided to leave them to it. Retrieving her freshly-caught Pokemon, she exited downstairs with the intention of restocking on Pokeballs at the PokeMart. She would come back, though...

"Sounds like a plan," Caleb pointed at the opposing sandshrew to direct his own. He didn't want any true harm to befall his new teammates. While most pokemon would not try to do such a thing out of defense, Spiritomb was the type to harm for the fun of it. Caleb could only hope that after taking care of this Sandshrew, he could pose a distraction enough to the Spiritomb to help the other trainer stop it for good.

Sandshrews were known to have very sharp claws used for digging. But a sandshrew's armored plating was even more notorious. Dune curled up, deflecting the blow, before throwing a scratch at the opponent sandshrew. Meanwhile, the larvatar was only seen as an easy target by the vile pokemon before it. With a frightening glare, and a moan, it sent forth from its' very core a floating orb of light. Dancing aimlessly, it slowly gained way towards the larvatar, circling around it. It had an ominous feeling to it, that would seem to remove the sanity from those that look at it too long. Trainers knew this technique as confuse ray, and it was a very effective move.

"No! Baby don't look at it!"
Sam called out to his Larvitar as he shielded his own eyes from the Confuse Ray. Baby, however, couldn't seem to look away, and it wasn't long before her eyes held a dangerous glazed look.

"Damn! C'mon Baby snap out of it! Use bite!"

The Larvitar blinked a few times and charged at the Spiritomb, her mouth open and ready to catch the ghost's wispy body between her jaws... only to fall head first into the stone floor.

"No! Baby! C'mon you can beat it! Just focus!"

Baby pushed herself off the floor and growled at the Spiritomb which seemed to be relishing the chaos. Meanwhile, the Sandshrew attacking Caleb reeled backward some from the attack. It didn't take long, however to shrug off the damage and follow through with a second assault!

No defense curl saved it this time, as it was still reeling from its' own blow. The scratch hit full force on Dune, which rolled backwards in a ball. Popping out, it squeaked at the opposing sandslash, and reared its' claws back. It was going for a full power blow to slam its' claws into the opposing pokemon! That's right... even just the slightest bit of guidance can make a wild pokemon much more refined. Dune was stronger than the other sandshrews here.

"Do it, Dune! Eh?" Caleb looked over to see the other man's Larvatar in a bit of a daze. It didn't look good, as the Spiritomb's shadow seemed to slither along the ground, to rise and slash at the larvatar. Shadow sneak! A ghost attack that turns shadow into a material thing. Luckily, it was rather weak. Ghosts can only do so much to break reality around them. But it was the presentation, the frightening aspect of it, that made the attack so potent in Caleb's mind. Ghosts seemed to excel in draining the will from their foes. It was exerting some kind of odd pressure that seemed to even drain Caleb's sandshrew of its' stamina...

"Watch out for the Shadow Sneak, Baby!"

She managed to stumble out of the way and it missed but just barely.

"Okay! Now let's try this again! Use Bite!"

"Laaaaar!"

Baby let out as fierce a cry as she could and ran at Spiritomb again. This time, however, she caught it. Her teeth sunk into whatever dark swirling mass comprised Spiritomb's body and Spiritomb let out a baleful yell, its unsettling grin turning into an even more terrifying frown.

"Okay Baby now follow it up with a leer..."

In the meantime, the wild Sandshrew used defense curl against Caleb's Sandshrew's attack, though, even with the added defense, it was thrown backward and out of its curl from the force of the attack.

"Shreeeeeeew!"

It tried to get back up but it was too stunned and in the time it took for the wild Sandshrew to recover, Caleb could have already gotten in another attack.

And that it did, as an uppercut-like scratch sliced at its' face! But it was then that Dune felt something beneath it. Feeling threatened by the Larvitar, it seems Spiritomb had tried to distract itself by attacking Dune! A shadow sneak rose up from behind it, grabbing its' leg and throwing it across the room! The rodent squeaked in surprise, but curled into a ball before it hit the wall. Rubble fell as it slammed into the old building, burying the sandshrew.

"D-Dune!" Caleb called out in horror, preparing to pull out another pokeball. But the sound of digging caught his attention as his fighter dug out from it like a champ. It was a shrew, after all. It pounded its' chest to show how "tough" it was, but it seemed this momentary distraction was enough for Spiritomb to regain its' composure, and launch a pursuit at Larvitar, its' body forming into a black mass and shooting at the creature like a boomerang before returning to its' former location.

Baby had been leering at the Spiritomb when her fighting partner was suddenly flung across the room. The sudden event had, in her confusion, succeeded in diverting her attention away from the Spiritomb and, though she breathed a thankful "Tar..." of relief, she did not see the incoming attack and was herself thrown back a good distance and into her trainer.

"Baby! you okay?"

The stone-like Pokemon colliding with his gut had knocked the wind out of him, but he still managed to whisper his concern for her well being. He wanted desperately to catch Spiritomb, but he didn't want Baby getting too hurt in the process. He helped her to her feet and grunted a bit as he got up himself. The Spiritomb was certainly a strong Pokemon, being able to fling two other Pokemon across the room as it did was a feat that proved only more so that it was a force to be reckoned with.

"Careful Baby! Stay focused. Let's try another leer now!"

Baby drew out her teeth and leered at the Spiritomb, while Sam hoped that it would be enough to keep it's attention off of Caleb's Sandshrew. Although the wild Sandshrew seemed to have been knocked out by the last attack he wanted to at least give Caleb's Pokemon some time to recover.

Post  Khia Thu May 03, 2012 1:02 am

It didn't take Khia long to reach the Third floor once again, nor did it take long for her to find herself once again in the middle of a Pokemon battle, this time, with a Rattata. Ray was growing stronger, and far outstriped any member of her party so far as he had partaken in much more training. As such, Khia sent out the defiant Ren with the intention of bonding over the chaos.

''Raaaaan!'' she said, still turning her back upon Khia. Or perhaps she was just turning to face the enemy Rattata? Khia could hope, couldn't she? Sighing, Khia pointed at the hopelessly weak-looking rodent Pokemon and issued a command. ''Ren, use scratch!''

Ren, somewhat reluctantly, charged forwards and scratched the offending Rattata straight across the face, startling it temporarily before it had chance to attack. Hissing at Ren, the small rodent-type Pokemon tackled her head-on, but aside from taking damage, Ren's body weight outmatched that of the Rattata's and so she didn't move all that much from the impact. This left them in close-combat, and it was a perfect opportunity for Ren to strike again with another scratch, which she promptly did. The Rattata gave one final hiss, then fled to the safety of its rat-hole, leaving Khia and Ren alone.

''Good job! You're really quite strong, aren't you?'' Khia said, fondly.

''Ran!'' Ren replied, ignoring her.

''Oh don't be that way. I'd better introduce myself properly... I'm Khia. It's nice to have you on the team, Ren!''

''Ran'' Ren replied in a bored tone.

The spiritomb felt quite threatened by the Larvitar. That said, it pulled off a last ditch move, as it frowned, groaning. From thin air, a nail. A long, iron nail, appeared beside its' swirling head. And not even a second later, it would suddenly stab into its' body, in jerky, violent movements. It clearly hurt, as it winced in pain with every brutal thrust... before the nail vanished. But what would shock Caleb, and possibly his new ally, was what happened next. The nail appeared beside both of their pokemon, and stabbed into them as well! The nail lingered, slowly pushing into their backs. It didn't seem to make an actual puncture wound, as the nail was ethereal. But clearly, both pokemon would take a large amount of pain from this brutal assault.

"I know this move! It's called curse! That pokemon just severely weakened itself, but our pokemon are going to keep taking some serious damage over time from that thing until they're out cold! I'm not going to last much longer... But your larvitar might hold out further. We have to find a way to defeat it now, there's no running from here now."

Sweat began to pour down his face. This was bad bad.

Lee wanders into the 3rd floor of the ruins and continues through searchingly, patiently, eventually a wild Sandshew pops out behind him, moving towards him at a uncomfortable pace. Lee let loose Sam again Use Tackle Sam! She confidently attacked the sandshrew with her fist, receiving a scratch from the wild pokemon in return. Tackle! Once again Sam tackles and came away with a scratch, Sandshrew seeming to weaken that much more than Munchlax for it to be obviously noticable. Again they traded blows and if he was planning to this would be a good chance to try capturing the sandshrew, but it didn't seem right to try adding this one to his party for the moment. He allowed Sam to finish it off with one last tackle, retreating back into her pokeball and Lee continued wandering through this section of ruins.

Sam's face fell. He had read about that move, the move that spelled almost certain defeat for any unfortunate enough to encounter a Ghost Type that knew it. He felt an icy chill run down his spine as the ethereal nail drove itself into Baby's back, rending from her a heart breaking cry of pain.

"Hold in there, Baby! C'mon we've almost beaten it!"

In the shuddering, swirling mass that was Spiritomb, Sam could have sworn he'd seen a smirk, despite the obvious pain it had dealt itself.

"LAAAAAARRR!!" came a pained scream from Baby as the phantom nail drove itself deeper into her body.

With curse in effect they didn't have much time before both their Pokemon would be too badly hurt to even move. Sam bit his lip and did the only thing he could think to do.

The Pokeball flew through the air at Spiritomb, hit it dead-on and pulled the Ghost Pokemon into it with a bright flash of red light. It fell to the ground with a light bounce and twitched violently as the Pokemon inside struggled to get out. Sam watched intently with bated breath as it shook once...
twice...

...and then , in a stream of white light, the Spiritomb was free once more, the used Pokeball sitting useless and broken on the ground.

"NO!"

He couldn't stop it, Baby would have to endure the fight and somehow beat it...

Somehow...

OOC: I ran a test sim on a shroomish lvl 6 spamming absorb against a spiritomb of level 4, and I pretty much survived with more than half my health left. Larvitar got beat by shadowsneaks when I put the spiritomb on level 7, but with a close match. Don't forget that bite inflicts Flinching :p

Tao enters the third floor, his new addition still hanging from his belt and shroomish just casually hopping behind him, brimming with energy absorbed from the wild pokémon around.
With quite the ruckus, there was a huge battle going on, a Spiritomb attacking two of his fellow just starting trainers. Tao would jump in to help, but Shroomish once again jumped the gun. He jumped towards the fight untill....

Shiny is 89

A dark flash appeared and rammed into Shroomish in mid-air, effectively baffling the confident pokémon. He jumped to his feet, glaring at whatever could have done this. A second Spiritomb appeared, most likely coming to back up whatever the other two trainers had been fighting, but it hardly seemed like much back-up. It seemed much more timid and careful than the aggressive attacker facign the other two. Most likely the fight had been started by the first Spiritomb to protect this one....
Tao smiled as Shroomish frowned his already boss-like expression, showing his discontent. Instantly the life and nutrients of the Spiritomb flowed out of it's body slowly but surely. It was difficult for Shroomish, working under the pressure of the forbidden pokémon and his usual attack was more tiring than it had been before, but the nutrients feeding him kept him going.

The discomfort on the Spiritomb's face was apparent, as it let out a haunting whimper before frowning. Before Shroomish could absorb more, the Spiritomb used it's shadow sneak, blitzing behind Shroomish and knocking him away again. The physical attack winded Shroomish, as he was knocked away, but not before various spores left his body. His ability of effect spore made his spores loose when touched, scattering them over whatever caused it.
Both the pokémon stopped moving for a second as they gared eachother down.

"You can do it, Shroom! He doesn't seem as strong as the other one, keep at it!"

The spiritomb suddenly started weaving around, as it fought to keep it's eyes open. The spores it had inhaled had the 30% chance of being sleeping spores, and it seemed that Tao was about to get lucky.
soon after, the Spiritomb closed it's eyes, and Tao grinned.
"Go for it, little guy. Absorb those spirits of 'm".

Shroomish nodded and started. The pressure was still high, leaving him spending more effort in his moves than normally, but luckily it was a light move to perform. The spiritomb, asleep and severely weakened by the continuous strain of absorbs, was prime to be caught.
"Okay shroom, let up. I got this.", Tao said with a smirk as he grabbed one of the empty pokéballs.
Quickly while the spiritomb was still asleep, he threw the ball at him. He didn't quite want this pokémon, but it was too rare to let up.

It was a suspenseful moment, seeing the forbidden pokémon dissappear into the ball, and the rocking movements.
A satisfactory "pling" sounded, and Tao laughed in relief as the pokémon was caught.
Shroomish beeped weakly, tired out from the constant strain caused by the newest addition to their team. It was the toughest he'd had yet, and Tao smiled at the thought that this might've been a good lesson in modesty for the mushroom.
A lesson not heard, however, as the mushroom victoriously beeped once more, trying to show it's bravado.
